You can surf Sumbawa all year around with a small crowd on the line-up ! Here is a list of the main surf breaks – others exists but the access remains more difficult.

As you can see below everything that surfs is welcomed on the line-up : surfboard, bodyboard, bodysurf, SUP, …

The atmosphere in the water is pretty chilled with people respecting priority rules (no snaking here !). Tons of smiles and cheering up when you get a barrel !

YOYOS SUMBAWA – THE HOOK

Simply an amazingly consistent surf break in West Sumbawa. There’s always a wave breaking even on the small swell days Yoyos Sumbawa is at least 3ft.
Best surfed in the morning to enjoy glassy conditions or offshore trade winds. This right-hander can offer a long wall with some barreling sections.
Doesn’t handle bigger swells.

 

 

 

 

 

Located 10 min motorbike ride North from Jepun Sunset Bungalows then 5 mins paddling from the shore.

 

YOYOS SUMBAWA – THE WEDGE

Sitting just 5 mins walking north of The Hook, Yoyos Sumbawa The Wedge is a wave mainly generated by the reflection of the swell on the cliffs.
The drop is mellow then the wave gets more powerful to finally end up in a close-out. Still lots of fun on this consistent right-hander, also best surfed in the morning and doesn’t handle big swells.

 

TROPICAL SUMBAWA SURF

This paradise beach offers 2 surf breaks : a right-hander and a left-hander.
The Tropical Sumbawa right is really short and works better on bigger swells to offer a longer ride with a fast and hollow wave.
The left is a must try : long hollow wave, often quick but totally makeable barrel.

SUPERSUCK SUMBAWA

Everybody has seen Supersuck Sumbawa on the cover of the surf magazines !
Get ready to experience your longest but also most intense barrel of your life.
This left needs big swells to show its potential.

SCAR REEF SUMBAWA

Scar reef Sumbawa is also a really famous wave for its difficulty but also its barrels.
The take-off is steep and hard. Once you’re in you will have several barrel opportunities but also have to generate enough speed not to get caught in the inside close-out…
Very technical, this left works better on mid to low tide.
